Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is a 28-amino acid peptide naturally derived from Prothymosin Alpha, originally isolated from thymic tissue. It has been extensively studied in immunology research for its modulatory effects on innate and adaptive immune signalling pathways, and is one of the most researched thymic peptides in preclinical and clinical literature.

This 10mg lyophilised formulation is supplied at ≥99% purity and intended strictly for laboratory research purposes.

Mechanism Overview

Thymosin Alpha-1 is derived from the N-terminal sequence of Prothymosin Alpha and is predominantly produced in thymic epithelial cells. In laboratory research models, Tα1 has been described as acting on Toll-like receptors (TLRs) — particularly TLR2 and TLR9 — on dendritic cells and macrophages, triggering downstream activation of NF-κB signalling pathways that regulate pro-inflammatory cytokine production.

Through this mechanism, Tα1 has been studied for its ability to enhance dendritic cell maturation and antigen presentation in immune cell models, facilitating more robust activation of downstream T-cell populations. Research has specifically examined its role in promoting Th1-polarised immune responses, characterised by IFN-γ and IL-2 secretion, which are associated with cellular immunity and pathogen clearance in experimental systems.

Thymosin Alpha-1 has also been investigated in the context of T-cell differentiation and thymic education, with studies describing its influence on the maturation of naïve T-cells into functional effector and memory populations. This has made it a reference compound in research examining immunosenescence — the age-associated decline in immune function — and conditions characterised by T-cell dysfunction.

Its well-characterised safety profile and defined mechanism of action across multiple immune cell types have contributed to Thymosin Alpha-1's status as one of the most extensively studied immunomodulatory peptides in research literature.

Stability and Handling

Thymosin Alpha-1 is supplied in lyophilised (freeze-dried) form to preserve peptide integrity during storage and transport.

Standard laboratory handling considerations include:

  • Refrigerated storage following reconstitution
  • Protection from direct light exposure
  • Avoiding repeated temperature fluctuations

Research Use Only

Thymosin Alpha-1 is supplied strictly for laboratory research and educational purposes. It is not approved for therapeutic use and is not intended for human consumption.
